Wednesday, June 7. 2006Extending and Embedding PHP
It's official!!!! After a year in development Extending and Embedding PHP is now shipping from fine book stores everywhere.
I've gotten good reviews from the half dozen people I know who've gotten their hands on it, and I am really satisfied with most of it. Do I think it could be better? Of course I do, but I don't think I was ever going to be completely satisfied. I've learned a lot through this process and while I don't see any more titles in my immediate future (there are things coming down the pipe which are likely to change my availability), I do expect that my next book, should it materialize, will be even better. If you pre-ordered it, you should see it soon, if you've already got your copy, let me know what you think! Did I skim over some topic too quickly? Did I belabour something else? If this book eventually finds it's way into a 2nd edition (no promises mind you), are there topics you want to see added? Tossed out? Expanded/Compressed? Comments

Congrats, Sara!
Congratulations on your bouncing baby book!
I _will_ get hold of a copy. Hell, I think I need one Thanks! Awesome
Congratulations! You must be feeling very proud to see your name on the cover of a book!

I am very proud of you... cheers... --Ange1a Congrats! Its already on my wishlist .. but maybe I need to fast track the aquisition by dropping some cash of my own.
BTW: Amazon one should "Buy this book with The Zend PHP Certification Practice Test Book: Practice Questions For The Zend Certified Engineer Exam by John Coggeshall today!" I think that is pretty funny Arrgh! Look what amazon.co.uk has done to you:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/067232704X/202-5480364-9303025 What's the chance I'll get the right book? George and Wez were the ones originally slated to write this title (listen to my podcast interview for the whole story -- http://podcast.phparch.com/main/index.php/episodes:20060602 ). The book is still the mine though
I decided to buy a copy of the book after listening to your interview with Marcus Whitney on the pro-php podcast. Ordered it on Friday from chapters.indigo.ca in Canada, got confirmation that it shipped on Sunday night and now I have the book sitting next to me!
I look forward to reading it on my train ride in and actually trying to create my own PHP extension. Huge congrats from all of us at Business and Technology Solutions at UC Berkeley. We are very proud to have you as a teammate. Onward, upward!
Just ordered your book and looking forward to reading it. I've been waiting for a book with this content for some time.
(Mind you, I can't find a TOC anywhere so I'm hoping it's all about PHP internals and PECL related stuff as opposed to yaPHP book!) I see it's not yet listed here: http://www.php.net/books.php Hopefully it will be soon. best regards --Andy amazon.com has a "look inside" which'll show you that, yes, It is about internals. Glad to hear you bought a copy, I hope you like it.
Thanks for the reminder about php.net/books.php, I'll add it now, should show up on mirrors in 15-30 minutes. I just finished reading the book, btw, I had no idea you wrote it when I stumbled here from a Zend Dev Zone article comment someone posted. Nice work on the book! You made it soo clear and simple; I have already installed PHP everywhere, I even have my kitchen sing running PHP now!
